ABOUT KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL

Founded in 1915, Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. Kiwanis International and its Service Leadership Programs for young people, including Circle K, Key Club, Key Leader, Builders Club, K-Kids, Kiwanis Junior, and Aktion Club, dedicate more than 19 million volunteer hours and invest US$100 million to strengthen communities and serve children annually. The Kiwanis International family is composed of 600,000 adult and youth members in 15,000 clubs in more than 70 countries and geographic areas. Kiwanis members make their mark by responding to the needs of their communities and pooling their resources to address worldwide issues. Globally, Kiwanis International has focused humanitarian efforts on eliminating iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) through the Worldwide Service Project, a US$75 million campaign in partnership with UNICEF, which began in 1994. ABOUT GREATER PEMBROKE PINES KIWANIS

The Kiwanis Club of Greater Pembroke Pines was chartered on September 21, 2001.  We are part of the 600,000 Kiwanis family member organization of 8,000 adult clubs and 8,000 youth clubs in 70 nations and geographic areas throughout the world.  Kiwanis International was established in 1915 and our club supports the organization’s motto, “Serving the Children of the World.”

Over the years, our club has sponsored an annual pancake breakfast and a Kiwanis Karnival as our main fundraising projects.  With the monies raised, we have awarded four year college scholarships since 2003 and provided funds for a number of other causes each year.

The club has proudly undertaken an aggressive program of sponsoring Kiwanis youth clubs in the Pembroke Pines Charter School System and other area schools.  We now sponsor nine such clubs, referred collectively as Service Leadership Programs (SLP’s). As we grow, more may be added.  Click the Service Leadership Programs link for more information on these programs.

In addition, we have partnered with the Children’s Harbor whose Pembroke Pines residential campus is home to parenting teens in foster care and their babies.  We provide a variety of hands-on service for these youth and their foster parents.
